1988 Yeti FRO

Another great local find, a 1988 (I presume) California made Yeti FRO. This bike must be one of the last one of the first generation of FROs. It features a round top tube (used on a couple batches when Yeti ran out of the first generation of oval top tubes, there were two types used), Simplex dropouts, a 1" headtube and no chainstay reinforcing gusset on the drive side (still common on some later FROs.)

This bike has clearly been repainted with a rattle can or maybe even a paintbrush and some store bought paint. The original color appears to be yellow, maybe with a white front. The top of the fork steerer iswhite so maybe it was some sort of fade. I'll attempt to strip some of the old paint and decals and see what lies beneath.

This is going to be a long term project. I bought with frame with the intent of converting it into a C-26 prototype tribute bike, but now that I have it I'm not so sure. Early FROs don't come around too often and maybe there is a worse one out there that would be a better candidate for conversion. I think this FRO would look great in all white with black Bullseye cranks and hubs to complete it. I'll sleep on it.
